The idea for Northern Squares wsa to be a simple photoblog of things that catch my eye from day to day. The pictures are all square format and are included without cropping from the original frame. I’ve shot all these pictures with small digicams – originally a Ricoh GX200 that I foolishly left on a train, and now a Lumix LX5. Over time I’ve found that I’ve tended towards a fairly high contrast and saturated look for these pictures. I’m not sure why, but it may just be that it suit the small sensor cameras I’ve been using. I’ve also found that I’m not really comfortable with square format for casual candid work, for which purpose I seem to gravitate towards 3:2 ratio.
There’s no talk on this blog. All the pictures are taken in the north and north east of England, typically around Leeds or Newcastle, though other placecs may feature from time to time.
